Poland's ZUS rolls out new secure pensioner ID cards

From 13 July 2026 the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) in Poland will issue pensioner‑retiree ID cards in new designs. Both the traditional plastic card and the electronic mLegitycja in the mObywatel app receive upgraded security features such as a gilosz pattern, micro‑print and a permanently engraved unique number.

The electronic version also drops the branch‑of‑ZUS information while keeping the holder’s photo, name, PESEL, card number and validity date. ZUS stresses that the change is automatic: existing cards remain fully valid for their stated period and beneficiaries do not need to apply for a replacement or visit a ZUS office. New cards will be issued automatically to all new pensioners and retirees, and users may continue to use either the plastic or digital version for discounts and benefits.
