Polícia Federal uses X-ray technology for airport security

The Brazilian Federal Police (Polícia Federal) are utilizing X-ray technology to inspect airport baggage, a method that proved crucial in a recent seizure of R$ 510,000 in cash at Congonhas International Airport in São Paulo.

According to the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC), X-ray machines allow for non-invasive inspections by producing images of the contents without opening the luggage. The technology can identify both metallic and non-metallic items based on how different materials react to radiation. While standard X-rays provide internal images, newer technologies like computed tomography are also available to generate more detailed 3D representations of baggage contents.
