Polícia Judiciária faces scrutiny over leadership management
The Polícia Judiciária (PJ) is facing scrutiny regarding the conduct of its former leadership, specifically concerning Luís Neves. Allegations involve management and transparency issues, including approximately 1.9 million euros in public contracts awarded to a company that also performed work on Neves's private property. Other points of contention include the use of seized assets for operational utility and a lack of asset declarations over an eight-year period.
While the investigation targets individual management practices, concerns have been raised about the potential impact on the institution's public reputation. The legal system has responded through an audit by the Inspecção-Geral dos Serviços de Justiça, proceedings in the Tribunal de Contas, and a Public Ministry inquiry. To maintain impartiality, the PJ has been removed from the investigation into its former director.
