Police investigate two violent killings in Algarve

The Portuguese Judiciary Police (PJ) are investigating two separate violent incidents in the Algarve region.

In Lagos, a 45-year-old foreign man has been detained on suspicion of the qualified homicide of a couple and the desecration of corpses. The victims, a 79-year-old man and a 62-year-old woman, were foreign health sector entrepreneurs residing in Portugal. Authorities state the victims were attacked with a blunt object before the suspect hid their bodies in a water cistern and attempted to decompose them using chemicals. The suspect was found in possession of a significant amount of money and valuables.

In Olhão, two men, aged 37 and 44, were arrested following a fatal stabbing and assault in a residence. The PJ reports the incident was linked to drug consumption and trafficking. One victim, aged 41, died at the scene, while a 51-year-old victim was hospitalized in serious condition after being attacked with a knife and an iron bar. The investigation is being overseen by the Olhão Department of Investigation and Criminal Action (DIAP).
