Counterfeit stamp syndicate dismantled in Indonesia

Polda Metro Jaya and the Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) have dismantled a cross-province syndicate involved in the production and distribution of counterfeit stamps. The joint investigation, conducted between June 24 and July 2, 2026, targeted operations across five regions: DKI Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java, and North Sumatra.

Authorities arrested 16 suspects with varying roles, including producers, distributors, couriers, and individuals responsible for reconditioning used stamps. The syndicate employed two primary methods: printing entirely new counterfeit stamps and reconditioning used stamps by erasing signatures, stamps, or dates to make them appear new for resale on various marketplaces.

Law enforcement seized over 3.4 million counterfeit stamps and raw materials capable of producing an additional 33.3 million stamps. The operation is estimated to have prevented potential state losses of approximately Rp1.03 trillion.
