Polda Metro Jaya investigates WhatsApp group targeting students

Polda Metro Jaya is investigating a WhatsApp group titled ‘Add people as much as you can’ following reports that students in South Jakarta were added to the group without clear processes. The investigation was prompted by concerns from parents regarding the nature of the group's content.

According to reports, the group allegedly contains discussions regarding LGBT topics and included polls asking members about their sexual orientation, such as whether they are ‘gay, lesbian, straight or others’.

Kombes Budi Hermanto, Head of Public Relations for Polda Metro Jaya, stated that the Cyber Crime Directorate and the Directorate of PPA-PPO are currently conducting an investigation. The police are also coordinating with relevant schools and plan to provide education to students regarding the dangers of pornography, risky social interactions, and the importance of responsible social media use.
