Polestar rolls out new 4 estate model as U.S. ban triggers deep EV discounts

Swedish electric‑vehicle maker Polestar is testing an estate version of the Polestar 4 in the United Kingdom. The variant replaces the rear‑view camera with a conventional rear windscreen, offering more cargo space while retaining the same front‑end styling as the existing coupé‑SUV. The company said the estate will be released later this year, with the current model being renamed the Polestar 4 Coupé. Production is planned for Busan, South Korea, allowing the cars to avoid U.S. tariffs on Chinese‑built vehicles.

Polestar CEO Michael Lohscheller explained that the estate adds “more function and practicality” for customers who need extra space. He added that “the automotive industry is entering a new phase, based on regional dynamics,” as the firm refocuses on Europe, Asia, Latin America and Canada after a U.S. Commerce Department decision barred the brand from selling connected vehicles in the United States from the 2027 model year on security grounds linked to its Geely ownership.

Following the ban, Polestar began offering substantial price reductions in the U.S.: a $25,000 discount on the Polestar 4 and a $23,000 discount on the Polestar 3, making both models among the cheapest electric cars available domestically.
