Poli Timișoara and Steaua draw 1-1 amid fan clashes in Sibiu

The Liga 2 match between Poli Timișoara and Steaua București, held at the Municipal Stadium in Sibiu, ended in a 1-1 draw. Poli Timișoara opened the scoring in the 63rd minute through Drăghici, though the goal was controversial as the player appeared to be in an offside position and VAR was not available for review. Steaua secured a point in the 90+1 minute with a header from Adrian Ilie.

Prior to the match, violent altercations broke out in the center of Sibiu between supporters of the two clubs. Jandarmerie forces intervened using tear gas to separate the groups and detained at least one individual following a chase through Piața Mică. Authorities had previously advised residents to avoid the city center and the stadium area due to expected high traffic and potential unrest.

Separately, Poli Timișoara officials are reportedly exploring plans to host a high-profile friendly match against Inter Milano to inaugurate the new Eroii Timișoarei Stadium, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. The club is looking to leverage connections with Inter manager Cristi Chivu to organize the event.
