Police accused of demanding bribe from Brazilian tourist at Chaco-Corrientes bridge
A Brazilian tourist has denounced an alleged bribe demanded by a police officer during a traffic control on the General Manuel Belgrano Bridge, which connects the Argentine provinces of Chaco and Corrientes.
According to video footage and social media reports, the driver was stopped and told that a towing hook on his vehicle constituted a traffic violation. The officer reportedly pressured the driver by claiming that security cameras had already recorded the infraction. The driver alleged that the officer demanded a cash payment—ranging between 200,000 and 300,000 pesos—to allow him to continue his journey.
The footage shows the driver expressing distrust, questioning whether the money would go to the state or the police, and stating, “I think I was robbed, that is the truth.” No official traffic fine or payment receipt was visible in the shared recording. As of the latest reports, the Corrientes Police and local transit authorities have not issued an official response to the incident.
