Police address rising youth crime trends in Vakka-Suomi
Police officer Mika Lintula recently conducted visits to eight schools across the Vakka-Suomi region to address rising trends in youth crime. During the visits, which included schools in Laitila and Uusikaupunki, officials discussed how criminal activity often increases at the start of the school year.
Key issues identified include the influence of TikTok challenges, such as the ‘urbex’ phenomenon where youths enter abandoned buildings for social media content. Police warned that such actions constitute criminal trespassing and pose safety risks. In Laitila, authorities highlighted disruptive and noisy moped riding in the town center as a primary concern.
In Uusikaupunki, police expressed particular concern regarding violent acts motivated by revenge. These incidents often involve filming assaults or humiliations to be shared on social media for bragging rights or retaliation. Lintula noted that these trends are often driven by a desire for social media attention or loyalty to peers.
