Police and council conduct major enforcement operation in Ashton
A multi-agency day of action in Ashton-under-Lyne resulted in several arrests, vehicle seizures, and road safety enforcement. The operation, held on Thursday, October 15, involved approximately 40 Special Constables from Greater Manchester, neighbourhood policing teams, traffic officers, and various Tameside Council departments, including Environmental Health, Trading Standards, and Licensing.
Officers targeted retail crime, anti-social behaviour, and environmental offences. This included visiting businesses that sell age-restricted items such as knives, vapes, and fireworks to ensure compliance with legal age-verification responsibilities.
Roadside checks were conducted on 18 licensed taxis and private-hire vehicles. While most were compliant, one vehicle was reported due to its condition, and another was seized by police for operating without proper insurance and licensing. The initiative also featured increased patrols in the town centre and an information stand at Ashton Market Hall to provide community safety advice to residents.
