Police and Enforcement Officers Clear Access in Vimmerby Summer Cottage Dispute

On a Wednesday, police, the Swedish Enforcement Authority (Kronofogden) and a hired contractor were deployed to a summer‑cottage area in Vimmerby Municipality, Sweden, to enforce court‑ordered restitution. The intervention removed large piles of stones, manure and other debris, and filled in trenches that landowners had created, blocking residents’ access to their properties and the lake.

The feud, described as an “infected” neighbour conflict, pits a group of cottage owners against landowners who have for months obstructed access. Previous rulings by the district court and Kronofogden have consistently favored the cottage owners, yet the dispute has persisted, prompting repeated police involvement and raising frustration among the residents.
