Police arrest 12 in Malaysia robbery; former flight attendant pleads guilty to pilot impersonation

In Malaysia, police have arrested 12 suspects following a robbery targeting a Taiwanese YouTuber in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur. The victim was reportedly assaulted by individuals impersonating police officers who targeted him after learning he possessed a large amount of foreign currency. The theft resulted in a loss of approximately 35,000 Malaysian Ringgit (roughly 280,000 TWD). The suspects, all Malaysian citizens aged 26 to 48, were apprehended across Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, and Kuala Lumpur. Investigations are ongoing regarding charges of impersonating public officials and gang robbery.

In a separate fraud case, a 34-year-old Toronto resident, identified as Bokonick, has pleaded guilty to telecommunications fraud in Hawaii. Between January 2020 and October 2024, the former flight attendant impersonated a pilot using forged credentials to obtain over 200 free flights from at least three U.S. airlines. Leveraging his previous industry knowledge, he utilized pilot-only benefits, including jumpseats. The scheme was uncovered after an airline employee noticed discrepancies in his identification. Bokonick faces up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
