Police arrest Belgian man for unauthorized drone flights over Eemshaven

Police have arrested a man from Belgium for flying a drone without a permit over the Eemshaven industrial port in the Netherlands. The arrest occurred on Tuesday, October 20, following multiple reports from security personnel at local companies regarding suspicious drone activity.

Authorities managed to take control of the drone's flight and seize the device before apprehending the operator. The Eemshaven area is a restricted zone due to its critical infrastructure, including power cables, a helicopter port, and a permanent Defense installation. The port also serves as a hub for transshipping military equipment for NATO partners, including the United States.

While the suspect has been released and returned to Belgium, he remains under investigation. Officials noted that one report described a large drone releasing smaller drones. Although other suspicious drone sightings have been reported in the Groningen province near the Farmsum chemical park and the Scheemda solar park, police do not believe there is currently a connection to this specific arrest.
