Police arrest cannabis smugglers in Ghaziabad and uncover counterfeit ring in Gopalganj

Police in Ghaziabad apprehended three cannabis smugglers following an encounter. The suspects, identified as Anas, Dilshad, and Aslam, attempted to flee on a scooter without a license plate after being intercepted by SWAT and surveillance teams. During the pursuit, the scooter slipped, and the suspects allegedly opened fire on the police. In the ensuing exchange, Anas and Dilshad sustained gunshot wounds to their legs and were hospitalized, while Aslam was arrested. Authorities recovered 21 kilograms of cannabis, two firearms, and ammunition.

In a separate incident in Gopalganj, Bihar, police dismantled a counterfeit currency operation operating out of a betel shop. Officers arrested Nilesh Kumar and recovered ₹43,700 in fake 100-rupee notes, which reportedly shared identical serial numbers. An accomplice, Arvind Kumar, managed to evade arrest. Police are currently investigating the broader network involved in the distribution of the forged notes.
