Agona Nkwanta police arrest five suspects in gold buyer murder

The Western Regional Police Command has arrested five suspects in connection with the robbery and murder of 40-year-old gold buyer Seth Kobina. The attack occurred on August 20, 2026, at Agona Fie near Agona Nkwanta, where armed men stormed Kobina’s shop and shot him in the chest. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at Agona Nkwanta Hospital.

Police investigations, aided by CCTV footage, identified 29-year-old Emmanuel Amponsah, known as “Vandam,” as the alleged gang leader. Amponsah was arrested at a guest house on August 21, and a search yielded a locally manufactured pistol and ammunition. Following his arrest, Amponsah reportedly fell ill and was pronounced dead on arrival at Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital.

Four other suspects were subsequently apprehended: Christopher Seyiri, Bashiru Ibrahim, and Thomas Odoom in the Agona Nkwanta area, and Isaac Quayeson in the Western North Region. Police recovered additional weapons, including a pistol, cartridges, a metal bar, and cutlasses. The suspects are currently assisting with ongoing investigations as authorities work to apprehend remaining accomplices.
