Densus 88 arrests 11 terrorism suspects across six Indonesian provinces
Indonesia’s Counterterrorism Special Detachment 88 (Densus 88) has arrested 11 suspects suspected of links to the Daulah Islamiyah terrorist network and other extremist groups. The coordinated operations took place across six provinces: West Java, Central Java, Central Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, Riau, and North Maluku.
Investigators identified several key roles among the detainees, including network consolidation, recruitment, propaganda dissemination, and training. Evidence suggests some suspects participated in physical and shooting drills. A notable pattern identified by authorities involves the use of virtual meetings to connect and indoctrinate supporters across different regions.
One of the suspects, 22-year-old YDKAP, was detained in Surakarta City. Following the arrests, Densus 88 has conducted searches and seized digital evidence, including mobile phones and memory cards, to further investigate potential connections to other individuals or networks. In Bandung, the local government has expressed concern over the discovery of radical activity in residential areas, prompting calls for stricter reporting of new residents by local officials.
