Suspect in Paraíba police officer's death dies in Acre shootout

In a joint operation involving the Civil Police of Paraíba and Acre, Jorge Henrique dos Santos Fernandes, known as “Jorge Negão”, died following a shootout with officers in the rural area of Bujari, Acre. Fernandes had been a fugitive for approximately two years and was a primary suspect in the September 2023 murder of Paraíba civil police officer Jerre Adriano de Sousa Ribeiro in Cajazeirinhas.

During the approach, Fernandes reportedly reacted by opening fire on the police teams. He was shot and subsequently died at a local hospital. Officers seized a shotgun, a pistol, and a false identity document at the property where he was hiding. The operation, named “Operação Rastro”, was coordinated by the Department of Organized Crime Repression (Dracco) with support from multiple specialized units.

In separate criminal developments in Brazil, a man was arrested in Minas Gerais for the killing of his father-in-law and the shooting of his former fiancée in Jacareí. Additionally, a 34-year-old man wanted for a 2020 rape in Minas Gerais was apprehended by authorities in Alagoas after a six-year search.
