Police arrest individuals in separate ATM fraud and theft cases

Two separate incidents of ATM card theft and fraud have resulted in arrests in Jamaica and Sri Lanka.

In St James, Jamaica, Carlisha Dixon, 30, and Tania Simms, 43, have been charged with 11 counts, including conspiracy to defraud, unauthorized access to computer data, and larceny. The charges follow an incident where a man sought assistance from Simms to withdraw money from an ATM. It is alleged that Simms provided the victim's bank card to Dixon, leading to unauthorized withdrawals totaling approximately $300,000.

In Sri Lanka, a 26-year-old woman was arrested by the Athurugiriya Police for allegedly stealing ATM cards belonging to a businessman. Investigations suggest the theft was orchestrated by her boyfriend, a mason at the businessman's construction site. The woman and her mother reportedly used the stolen cards to withdraw funds for a honeymoon, mobile phones, and jewelry. The boyfriend was also arrested by the Weligama Police on an open warrant.
