Police arrest individuals in separate French crime incidents

In Canteleu, Seine-Maritime, police arrested a 19-year-old man after he was spotted hiding under a vehicle. The suspect, who fled toward the railway tracks before being apprehended, admitted to stealing a vehicle's catalytic converter. During the incident, officers also detained two other men, aged 28 and 30, who were found hiding in a nearby parked car with a reciprocating saw. All three suspects were taken into custody and later released pending future court summons.

In the Gard department, authorities arrested a man for attempting to sell protected goldfinches by misrepresenting them as canaries in online advertisements. Following an investigation by environmental specialists and the French Biodiversity Agency (OFB), gendarmes discovered several birds at the suspect's home. The goldfinches, a protected species in decline, were released into the wild with the assistance of the Gard Ornithological Center (COGARD). The seller faces legal proceedings under the authority of the Nîmes prosecutor's office.
