Police arrest man in connection with Quran theft and burning

A 25-year-old man has been detained in a hotel in Chow Kit, Kuala Lumpur, in connection with the theft and burning of Quranic texts. The arrest follows public reports of a fire involving Quranic pages at a field in Senawang on August 22.

During a raid on the suspect's hotel room, police recovered 16 copies of the Quran inside two bags, along with three mobile phones and personal belongings. Investigators believe the texts were taken without permission from mosques and prayer halls in the Chow Kit area. Additionally, a search of the suspect's family home in Senawang uncovered 36 Quran covers, which police believe are linked to the Senawang incident.

Police are also investigating whether some of the texts were taken from a university in northern Malaysia, following the discovery of a university ownership stamp. The suspect has four prior criminal records and had completed police supervision only two months ago. The case is being investigated under Sections 380 and 295 of the Penal Code.
