Police arrest man in Uttar Pradesh over forced Halala allegations

In the Kiratpur area of Bijnor district, Uttar Pradesh, police have arrested one individual following allegations of forced Halala. A woman filed a complaint on October 14 against her former husband, Muzammil, and several members of his family, including her mother-in-law Guddo and brothers-in-law Gayyur and Shahnawaz.

The complainant stated that after being divorced by Muzammil approximately two years ago, she expressed a desire to reunite with him. However, she alleges that her in-laws imposed the condition of Halala and subjected her to physical assault and verbal abuse when she refused.

According to police reports, the suspect Shahnawaz admitted during questioning that Halala was discussed prior to the woman's remarriage to Muzammil. He also reportedly admitted to using physical force against the woman despite her lack of consent. Police are continuing their investigation into the allegations of assault and attempts to evict the woman from her home.
