Police arrest man suspected of fatal assault on toddler in Jakarta

Police in Jakarta have detained a 22-year-old man, identified by the initials AR, in connection with the alleged fatal assault of a one-year-eight-month-old girl. The incident reportedly occurred near the Kebayoran Lama Station on Saturday night.

Authorities were alerted by local residents regarding suspected violence against a child. Upon investigation, officers found the suspect had already been detained by citizens. Preliminary reports indicate the victim's body was buried in a brush area near Jalan Taman Bendungan Jatiluhur 5 in Tanah Abang, Jakarta Pusat, because the suspect and the victim's mother allegedly lacked the funds for a proper burial.

Police have seized evidence, including blood-stained tissues and a black bucket. An autopsy will be conducted at the Polri Kramat Jati Hospital to determine the exact cause of death. Investigators are continuing to examine the chronology of the event and questioning individuals who may have witnessed the incident.
