Police arrest multiple drivers for drunk driving in Hong Kong and Taiwan

Police in Hong Kong and Taiwan have conducted separate enforcement actions targeting drunk driving to improve road safety.

In Hong Kong, the North New Territories Police Force launched operation ‘QUICKCHASER’ between September 11 and 12. During the operation, officers intercepted vehicles exhibiting unstable driving behavior. Two local male drivers, aged 38 and 50, were arrested in Tuen Mun and San Tin after failing breathalyzer tests. Both individuals have been released on bail and are scheduled to report to the police in early October.

In Taiwan, officers from the Zhongli Police Station discovered a vehicle stationary in the middle of an intersection despite a green light. Upon investigation, police found a 27-year-old male driver unconscious inside the vehicle. After breaking the window to reach the driver, officers detected a strong odor of alcohol. The driver recorded a blood alcohol content of 0.55 mg/L and was transferred for prosecution on charges of public endangerment.
