Police arrest multiple suspects in Indian SIM card fraud rackets
Police in West Bengal and Odisha have dismantled separate fraudulent operations involving counterfeit SIM cards.
In Kolkata, authorities arrested seven individuals from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana at a residence in Salt Lake. The group allegedly operated a call center under names such as ‘Tauseef Telecom,’ using forged documents to obtain SIM cards in various individuals' names. These cards were reportedly used to pose as loan company representatives to extort money from victims. To date, 11 people have been arrested in connection with this specific investigation.
In Sambalpur, Odisha, cyber police arrested three people for manufacturing and selling counterfeit mobile connections. The suspects allegedly misused identity documents to generate multiple SIM cards against single numbers. Investigators are looking into potential links between this racket and the cybercrime hub in Jamtara, Jharkhand.
