Brazilian police arrest organized crime leaders in multi-state operations
Brazilian law enforcement agencies have conducted several operations targeting organized crime and property theft. In a major coordinated effort known as Operation Repatriation, police arrested Edmilson Rosas Lima, also known as ‘Mago’ or ‘Buga’, in Praia Grande, São Paulo. Lima is identified as a key leader of the ‘Bonde do Maluco’ (BDM) criminal faction, which is primarily involved in drug trafficking. During the arrest, authorities seized luxury items, including a BMW, and fraudulent identification documents.
In Bahia, Operation Iceberg targeted a drug trafficking network serving high-end clients. This operation led to the arrest of Rodrigo Santos Bastos in Salvador, who allegedly acted as an interstate supplier, shipping narcotics from São Paulo via postal services disguised as sweets. A total of 12 individuals have been captured through this investigation.
Other regional police actions include Operation Aurum in Araçatuba, which resulted in the arrest of a suspect in a jewelry store robbery and the recovery of stolen goods. Additionally, in Macau, Rio Grande do Norte, the ‘Macau Segura’ operation led to the seizure of a 9mm pistol and ammunition following an attempted homicide investigation.
