Police arrest suspect after cigarette machine explosion in Friesenheim
Police in Germany have arrested a 19-year-old man following the explosion of a cigarette vending machine in Friesenheim. The incident, which occurred around 1:00 AM on Tuesday, follows two other similar explosions in the Lahr region within recent days. Witnesses reported seeing a white BMW fleeing the scene with masked individuals.
Authorities identified a second suspect, a 20-year-old, and conducted searches of residences following warrants from the Offenburg District Court. Evidence was seized in both cases. The 19-year-old was found to be driving without a valid license and was suspected of being under the influence of drugs. Both suspects have been released pending further legal proceedings regarding the manufacture and use of explosives. Total damages from the three recent vending machine incidents are estimated in the thousands of euros.
Investigators are currently working to determine if the three explosions are linked and whether additional individuals were involved.
