A 48-year-old man has been arrested following a knife attack in the Langenhorn district of Hamburg on Tuesday evening. The incident occurred around 7:20 PM at the Langenhorner Markt, where a 38-year-old man was attacked while walking after work.

According to police, the assailant struck the victim with a knife, causing injuries to his head, and threatened to kill him. The attack ended only after bystanders intervened to assist the victim, prompting the assailant to flee toward a nearby U-Bahn station. The victim was transported to a hospital; authorities stated his injuries are not life-threatening.

The homicide commission is investigating the incident as attempted murder. Preliminary findings suggest the victim may have known the suspect from his work as a retail detective. The suspect was taken into custody on Wednesday and is scheduled to appear before a judge.
