Police arrest suspects in human trafficking and extortion cases in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka
In Bangladesh, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested Masud Karim, owner of Tahsin Tours and Travels, in Dhaka. Karim is accused of money laundering, human trafficking, and hostage-taking. The investigation alleges that two individuals were promised work visas for Malaysia but were instead taken on visit visas and held captive. The perpetrators reportedly demanded a ransom of Tk5 lakh from the victims' relatives, successfully extracting Tk2 lakh through a bank account. The victims were allegedly subjected to physical and mental torture during their captivity.
In Sri Lanka, police arrested a 38-year-old Chinese national in Colombo for allegedly operating an extortion racket targeting foreign investors and businesses within Colombo Port City. During a raid at an apartment complex, authorities recovered forged foreign passports and undeclared cigarettes. Investigations indicate the suspect is wanted in China for multiple crimes, with warrants already issued by Chinese authorities.
