Police arrest suspects in separate Dubai and UK fraud cases
Authorities in Dubai and the United Kingdom have arrested suspects in separate fraud investigations.
In Dubai, the Anti-Fraud Centre of the Dubai Police arrested two individuals involved in a sophisticated phone scam. The suspects allegedly impersonated officials from international and local entities, claiming victims were linked to legal cases. Through psychological pressure and intimidation, the fraudsters coerced victims into transferring funds overseas and selling gold jewellery to cover alleged verification costs. The total losses from these scams exceeded AED 11.8 million.
In Nottinghamshire, UK, police arrested two men, aged 20 and 22, following a rogue trader incident targeting a vulnerable elderly woman. The suspects allegedly posed as electricians and demanded £13,000 for minimal work. One suspect attempted to escort the victim to a bank to facilitate the transfer, but bank staff intervened and alerted authorities. The incident also left exposed live wires at the victim's residence, requiring intervention from National Grid.
