Brandenburg authorities appeal for witnesses following youth violence

Brandenburg Interior Minister Jan Redmann has issued an urgent appeal to witnesses following a series of violent incidents involving youth groups. Redmann addressed social media criticism regarding state inaction, asserting that “the state is acting” and emphasizing the necessity of public cooperation.

In Potsdam, authorities have identified 25 suspects, while 10 suspects were identified in Frankfurt (Oder). Five individuals are currently in custody, facing charges including the attempt to exert pressure on witnesses to prevent them from testifying.

The incidents in Frankfurt (Oder) involved minors aged 13 to 15 who assaulted a student. Police reports indicate the group included individuals of German, Polish, Russian, and Syrian nationality. In Potsdam, multiple attacks by youth groups have prompted the establishment of a dedicated investigation group.
