Mexico City authorities arrest suspect in Condesa dog poisoning case
Mexico City authorities have arrested a 58-year-old man suspected of placing poisoned baits in Parque España and surrounding areas of the Condesa neighborhood. The investigation, led by the Fiscalía General de Justicia de la Ciudad de México and the Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana, follows reports of at least four dogs dying and several others becoming intoxicated after consuming meat baits containing blue capsules.
Forensic analysis identified the substance as methomyl, a highly toxic insecticide that affects the nervous system. Authorities recovered 14 contaminated baits, including pieces of meat and deli meats, during their investigation. The suspect was apprehended near the intersection of Atlixco and Juan Escutia streets after being identified through surveillance footage and neighbor reports.
Preliminary investigations suggest the motive may have been retaliation after a dog allegedly attacked a member of the suspect's family. The individual reportedly became aggressive toward officers during his arrest and has been transferred to the Public Ministry to determine his legal status. He faces potential charges related to animal cruelty or mistreatment.
