Police in the Offenburg region have arrested several suspects following a series of attempts to break into or explode cigarette vending machines.
In Friesenheim, a 19-year-old suspect was detained after a cigarette machine was detonated. A second 20-year-old suspect has also been identified. This incident marks the third such explosion in the Lahr area within a few days, with damages and stolen goods estimated to be worth several thousand euros. Investigators are working to determine if these explosions are linked.
In a separate incident in Offenburg, two 17-year-olds were apprehended after a witness chased them following an attempted machine break-in using an angle grinder. Police discovered the suspects were using a stolen motorized scooter with a manipulated identification number. The suspects face charges including attempted aggravated theft and dangerous interference with rail traffic after abandoning the vehicle on train tracks.
