Nagpur police arrest interstate gang for ATM fraud

Hudkeshwar Police have arrested two members of an interstate gang for allegedly defrauding 41 Canara Bank customers in Nagpur using a specialized ATM tampering method. Between September 12 and 14, the suspects used black plastic strips to cover the cash dispenser slots of an ATM, preventing currency from being dispensed while the transactions were processed.

The suspects would later return to remove the trapped cash. The fraud, totaling approximately ₹1.52 lakh, was reported by the Canara Bank branch manager after customers noted that funds were debited without cash being released.

Police arrested 32-year-old Satish Rajput, a resident of Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, and 35-year-old Dharmendra Sahu, a resident of Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. Authorities recovered several black strips, adhesive tape, scissors, and various ATM cards from the suspects. Investigations are ongoing to determine if the gang is part of a larger interstate network.
