Police arrest two suspects in Cross River step-brother murder
Police in Cross River State, Nigeria, have arrested two men, Omini Eno Ibiang, 28, and Emmanuel Eno Ibiang, 26, for the alleged murder of their step-brother, Bassey Eno Ibiang. The incident occurred in the Yakurr Local Government Area.
According to police spokesperson Sunday Eitokpah, the suspects allegedly attacked the deceased following accusations that he stole a bag belonging to their elder sister. Reports indicate the victim was bound and subjected to a severe assault involving a sharp object, including a deep machete wound to the head. Bassey was taken to Ugep General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
Shantel Eno Oka, the sister of the deceased, has publicly criticized the family dynamics, alleging that polygamy contributed to the violence. She also recounted a previous incident in 2010 where she was allegedly attacked by step-sisters.
Commissioner of Police Ajo Ordue has urged residents to avoid taking the law into their own hands and to report disputes to authorities rather than resorting to violence.
