Police operation targets suspects in Pontalina ex-mayor murder
The second phase of ‘Operação Carta Marcada’ was launched by the Civil Police of Pará and Goiás to investigate the murder of former Pontalina mayor José Porto de Andrade. The operation targeted suspects in the cities of Jacundá and Rondon do Pará.
Authorities executed temporary arrest warrants and search and seizure orders. The investigation aims to identify intermediaries, locate a second executor, and track financial transactions related to the crime. During the operation, police seized 11 firearms, including pistols, revolvers, and shotguns.
José Porto de Andrade was shot in front of his home in Pontalina on July 21. After being hospitalized for 15 days, he died on August 5. Investigations suggest the attack was premeditated, with the shooter monitoring the former mayor's routine for several hours prior to the shooting.
