Police arrest women in separate Brazilian criminal cases

Police in Brazil have conducted separate operations resulting in the arrests of two women involved in violent crimes.

In Cabo de Santo Agostinho, Pernambuco, Claudia Maria da Silva Pereira was arrested for the fatal beating of her 88-year-old grandfather, Pedro Salustiano da Silva. Investigators stated that Pereira, a drug user, had a history of assaulting the elderly man to obtain money for narcotics. Despite a previous judicial order prohibiting her from contacting the victim, the assault occurred in June, leading to his death at a hospital.

In Salvador, Bahia, authorities arrested Jóice Gomes de Jesus during the ‘Operação Dominus Areae’ in the Nordeste de Amaralina complex. Jesus, who is pregnant and was wearing an electronic monitoring device, is identified as a member of the Comando Vermelho criminal faction. She is the partner of Fábio de Souza Costa, a suspected gang leader known as ‘Anjo,’ who was previously arrested in April. The operation also resulted in the apprehension of six other gang members.
