Police arrested for bribery and hospital director transferred following misconduct probe

Four police officers from the Monaragala Criminal Investigation Division have been arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of 500,000 LKR. The officers are accused of taking the money to avoid taking legal action against suspects involved in cannabis cultivation near the Demodara tank in Nikawewela.

Following an investigation, the suspects were produced before the Wellawaya Magistrate's Court, where remand orders were obtained for further inquiries. The incident involved allegations that officers destroyed some cannabis plants while seizing others after receiving the bribe.

In a separate matter, the Malaysian Ministry of Health has transferred a hospital director in Sabah to a medical officer role within the Sabah State Health Department. This administrative action follows an internal investigation into allegations of misconduct, sexual assault, and workplace bullying.

Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad stated that the victim has been provided with full support and psychiatric treatment, and has been moved to a safe working environment. An official report regarding the incident has been submitted to the Public Service Department (JPA) for further action.
