Police arrests and prison escape reported in Kenya
In West Sang’alo Ward, five individuals were arrested during a Linda Mwananchi Movement engagement at Buteyo Miti Park. The event, led by former Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi, was marked by chaos and an attack on a participant. Bungoma gubernatorial aspirant Zachariah Barasa criticized the arrests, alleging they were politically motivated and directed at settling scores. Wamunyinyi described the movement as a call for leadership that prioritizes citizens.
Separately, in Embu County, four detainees escaped from the Itabua Police Station after allegedly tunneling through a cell wall. The group includes a murder suspect and two men charged with robbery with violence. Embu County police boss Sarah Koki confirmed the breakout and stated that a manhunt is underway. The incident has caused anxiety among local residents and raised concerns regarding security at the heavily guarded facility.
