United Nations to continue supporting Montenegro's police and institutions

The United Nations (UN) will continue to serve as a reliable partner to Montenegro in strengthening institutions, capacity, and the rule of law. This was confirmed during a meeting between Lazar Šćepanović, Director of the Police Administration, and Karolin Tiso, the UN Resident Coordinator in Montenegro.

Šćepanović highlighted the importance of cooperation with various UN bodies, including the International Organization for Migration (IOM), UNDP, UNHCR, UNICEF, SEESAC, UNODC, and UNOCT. This partnership has provided technical, operational, and professional support in critical areas such as combating organized and cross-border crime, enhancing border security, migration management, forensics, and the fight against the smuggling of small arms and light weapons.

These programs are also noted for helping Montenegro meet European Commission recommendations and align with the EU legal acquis. Additionally, the cooperation includes professional training through workshops and seminars to improve the expertise of police officers.
