Police Called to New Jersey Crunch Fitness Over ID Dispute with Father and Son

Andrew Cox Sr. and his 16‑year‑old son were exercising at Crunch Fitness in East Brunswick, New Jersey, when staff asked the boy for a physical photo ID. Cox offered his own identification and the son’s school portal information, but employees insisted on a physical ID and refused to accept the student profile.

When the manager failed to intervene, the staff called police to the gym. The encounter was recorded and posted online, showing officers confronting the father and the son being asked to leave. The video sparked discussion about the gym’s policy and accusations of racial discrimination, as Cox is Black and the incident occurred despite the family’s membership allowing guest access.

The incident highlights concerns over handling of identification policies in fitness centers and the use of law enforcement in customer disputes.
