Police Capture Venomous Yarará Snake in Buenos Aires Park

On Wednesday, police in Buenos Aires responded to reports of a large venomous yarará (Bothrops alternatus) spotted in a ravine of the Parque de las Colectividades near Balcarce street. Specialized officers cordoned off the area, used herpetological tools such as a handling pole, a sealed plastic container and tweezers, and safely captured the snake, later transporting it away from the public space. Authorities advised the public not to attempt to catch or kill such snakes, to keep a safe distance, and to contact police or emergency services immediately. They also recommended staying on marked trails in parks and seeking medical attention promptly if bitten.
