Police chase near Lake Velence ends with burning car
A high-speed police chase in Fejér County ended with a vehicle catching fire in a sunflower field near Lake Velence. The incident began when officers attempted to stop an Opel with an expired technical inspection. The driver refused to comply, leading police on a pursuit where he reached speeds of up to 150 km/h in residential areas and repeatedly endangered oncoming traffic.
During the chase, four passengers jumped from the moving vehicle. The driver attempted to evade capture by driving onto a bicycle path and through a drainage canal bridge before entering a sunflower field. The car became immobilized and subsequently caught fire. Additionally, a mobile phone found on his person was identified as being stolen in Győr the previous day. He faces multiple charges, including driving offenses, over thirty traffic violations, and crimes committed against law enforcement officers.
