Police Chief Skënder Hita Announces Smart Tech Road Monitoring in Albania

Police Chief Skënder Hita spoke at a road‑safety awareness event in Tirana, outlining the State Police’s shift toward intelligent traffic monitoring. He said the force will stop random, unjustified stops – the so‑called “ticket hunting” – and replace them with technology‑based enforcement using devices such as “Poliscan”, high‑resolution drones and automatic radars that record violations in real time without disrupting traffic flow. Hita emphasized that the technology, not intuition, will determine the offender, and called for greater driver responsibility, including respecting speed limits, avoiding mobile‑phone use behind the wheel, and not driving under the influence. The police also plan to work with schools and driving academies to educate young road users and improve overall traffic culture in Albania.
