Police conduct road safety enforcement in Burkina Faso and Canada
Law enforcement agencies in Burkina Faso and Canada have conducted recent road safety operations to enforce local traffic regulations.
In Kongoussi, Burkina Faso, the National Police carried out the ‘Bouclier tête durcie’ operation between October 1 and October 6, 2026. During this period, authorities inspected 817 motorcycle and tricycle users, seizing 411 vehicles for failure to wear helmets. The operation resulted in 1,233,000 FCFA in fines. Police officials noted that while awareness is increasing, some users attempt to bypass rules by carrying helmets rather than wearing them. To reclaim seized vehicles, owners must pay a 3,000 FCFA fine and present a helmet.
In Gatineau, Canada, the Gatineau Police Service conducted 124 operations between August 31 and September 18, focusing on school zones and school bus compliance. A total of 118 tickets were issued, primarily for speeding (105 instances), followed by violations of school bus signals, school zone infractions, and distracted driving. The service also collaborated with school transport partners to monitor bus routes and conducted 336 surveillance visits near 79 educational institutions to ensure community safety.
