Police corruption and criminal intimidation cases reach sentencing

In Taiwan, a court has finalized a sentence for police officer Chen Hsin-an, who was involved in a scheme to steal ketamine from drug dealers. Chen and several accomplices, including former officer Chang Chin-wei, engaged in “black eats black” tactics by replacing seized drugs with sugar during police inspections. This allowed the officers to steal the narcotics while ensuring the dealers could not be prosecuted due to insufficient drug purity in the remaining samples. Chen was sentenced to 4 years and 11 months in prison after his appeal was rejected by the Supreme Court.

In Hong Kong, a 66-year-old security guard, Yang Yi-liang, has been sentenced to 100 hours of community service for criminal intimidation. The incident occurred in Kwai Chung, where Yang threatened a Housing Department official with a knife during a home visit. While the magistrate noted the seriousness of threatening public officials, the court granted a community service order instead of imprisonment, citing the defendant's lack of prior criminal record and his expression of remorse.
