Poland marks Police Day with nationwide ceremonies and central event in Warsaw

On 24 July 2026 Poland celebrated the 107th anniversary of the State Police and the 36th year of the Police Act. Across the country, regional police commands held formal ceremonies that included oath‑taking, awards and promotions. In Gnieźno, a family‑friendly picnic featured demonstrations by police units, dog‑handler teams and tactical displays. Similar events occurred in Krosno, Nisko, Zgierz, Białystok, Gdańsk and the Podlaskie, Pomorskie and Lower Silesian regions, where hundreds of officers received the "Zasłużony Policjant" medal, long‑service medals and rank advancements.

The central ceremony in Warsaw was held on Plac Marszałka Józefa Piłsudskiego, with a parade, a formal oath for new recruits and a defile of police sub‑units. The program highlighted several jubilees: the 95th anniversary of Police Aviation, the 50th anniversary of the counter‑terrorism unit BOA, the 100th anniversary of district stations and the centenary of sport in the police. A public "Blue Picnic" the following day offered attractions for children and opportunities to submit recruitment documents.

Recruitment drives were also highlighted. The Wrocław command reminded applicants that the police accept documents year‑round and listed three upcoming intake dates in 2026. In the Pomorskie garnizon, 150 new officers were sworn in, bringing the regional strength to about 6 000 police personnel. Overall, the celebrations underscored the role of the police in public safety and community engagement throughout Poland.
