Police departments introduce new K9 officers to service

Police departments in Hartselle and Pensacola have recently introduced new K9 officers to their forces.

In Hartselle, Officer Tyler Boyer fulfilled a long-term goal by establishing the department’s first K9 unit in approximately 15 years. The initiative, which involved sourcing a reputable breeder and securing supplies, was funded through a combination of city council resources and a crowdfunding campaign supported by local donations.

In Pensacola, the department officially introduced K9 Redden, a Belgian Malinois that was rescued from a neglect situation by the Emerald Shores Humane Society a year ago. After completing specialized training, Redden is now dual-certified in detection and apprehension and has been partnered with Officer Michael Potts in the Patrol Division.
