Emskirchen police respond to large unauthorized gathering
On August 8, 2026, police launched a large-scale operation in Emskirchen, Germany, to manage an unauthorized mass gathering known as the "Schanzenfest." Up to 3,500 people gathered in the region, many traveling from across Germany and Austria, to congregate near the former residence of YouTuber Rainer Winkler, known as "Drachenlord."
Despite a local mandate prohibiting gatherings of more than eight people, crowds moved from a local supermarket toward the district of Altschauerberg. Police, including riot police, mounted units, and canine teams, cordoned off the area to prevent participants from entering the residential district.
Authorities reported a "very aggressive basic mood" among the participants. The confrontation resulted in insults, resistance, and physical attacks against officers. Some participants reportedly threw firecrackers at police horses. Several individuals were detained, and police are currently reviewing cases for potential criminal and administrative proceedings.
