Police detain men in Argentine towns over gender‑based violence cases
In the town of Makallé, police arrested a man after a 32‑year‑old woman reported that he threatened her with a lamp post, broke a window and stole household items, including a TV and cash. Officers recovered some of the stolen goods and the suspect was placed in custody on charges of threats, theft and damage in a gender‑based violence context.
Separately, in Puerto Tirol, police detained two men in separate operations linked to gender‑based violence. One man resisted arrest during a vehicle checkpoint and was subdued after a struggle; a second was detained for alleged non‑compliance with judicial measures in a gender‑based violence case. Both incidents were overseen by the local gender prosecutor's office.
